We love the Island Hotel

We always love staying at the Island Hotel, because of the wonderful food, the historic and quaint atmosphere and the camaraderie. We love the fried grits with bacon gravy and shrimp, the Heart of Palm salad, and the homemade key lime pie. So outstanding! We sat in the courtyard for dinner -- so relaxing -- with live music, good wine, beer and drinks, with our friends. The warmth of the Cedar Key locals and faithful island visitors enveloped us like an old quilted comforter. Even though you might not know another soul there, you feel as if you have known everyone a long time -- like old friends. The waitresses and hotel staff are the hardest working folks you could see. They never stopped for a minute. The hotel itself is like traveling back in time. You might want to bring your own pillow (theirs are a bit lumpy), hair dryer and nite light if you stay in room 32. The high step-up to the tiny bathroom is a bit of a challenge for us senior citizens. Folks linger long in the courtyard and bar, socializing, so if you want to go to sleep early and don't want to be awakened early by the folks in the room next to you, choose a larger room in a front corner. We didn't mind, because we were just so happy to be back at Cedar Key and the old Island Hotel.

Lovely historic property with lots of charm and a very walkable location. Check -in was a breeze, wonderful hospitality. It was my birthday that evening, and was sorry I came on a Monday and missed dinner and the very quaint bar (closed Mondays). There was a nice sitting area upstairs and the perfect place to have a glass of wine. Great bed, slept like a baby! Good strong coffee in the morning! Amazing artwork and a perfect private courtyard, I would definitely recommend.

enjoyed the authenticity of a spot that is truly old Florida. Keeping history intact does bring the drawback of having to forgo the comforts of modern lodging establishments.
